For French New Year's Eve
1½ lbs good steak, ground
1/8 teaspoon salt
¼ cup water
2 slices white bread, toasted, buttered, and cut into small pieces
2 medium potatoes, chopped fine
2 medium onions, chopped fine
1 cup celery, chopped
ground pepper
cinnamon to taste
ground cloves to taste
2 pie crusts
- Place meat in a pan and cook for about 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, grind potatoes and onions. Add to the meat and cook 15-20 minutes longer, stirring often.
- Add pepper, ground cloves and cinnamon.
- Keep stirring so the meat won't stick to the pan.
- Place between 2 pie crusts, bake at 400° until well done.
