Our final tally of net proceeds for the 2012 Team Towanda FUNdraiser was $30,000!!
Congratulations to all who supported this event! On behalf of everyone who
contributed, we had the honor of presenting $15,000 checks to the Towanda Funds
at both Hartford Hospital and ECHN. As promised, 100% of the funds raised that
night will go to pay for mammograms and breast related services for uninsured,
underserved women in the Greater Hartford Community. Thank you to all the
wonderful friends who made this possible. The need for assistance for these
services continues to skyrocket as more women find themselves without medical
benefits in this economy. Please continue to support these women through
our Towanda funds as generously as you can.
We are so happy to show you these examples of your donations at work. Remember,
Team Towanda is a 100% volunteer organization that is still run from Judith’s
kitchen table. We keep our overhead to an absolute bare minimum (yes, we still
clip coupons and look for sales for every TTF purchase we make), while we strive to
make every donated penny count. And those pennies add up! To date, we have
donated over $250,000 to provide mammograms and breast related services to
uninsured, underserved women in the Greater Hartford community!
If you or someone you know needs a mammogram but is unable to afford one, please
contact the Partnership for Breast Care at Hartford Hospital at 860.545.1018 or
the ECHN Women’s Wellness Center at 860.872.5368. Be sure and tell them “Towanda

Sneak Peek at Survey Responses
Thank you so much to all the attendees who completed our post-FUNdraiser
survey! All the committee chairs read every single comment, and we find them
invaluable in our attempts to improve every event. We thought you’d like to
peek over our shoulder at some of the things girlfriends had to say about the
“The best self breast exam presentation I’ve ever seen/heard and I have done
Q: What is the one thing you take away from the event?
A: “Breast cancer is not a death sentence. Knowledge is power. Positive mental
attitude can get you through the tough times. Friends are more valuable than
gold. To laugh is to live!”
A: “In indescribable feeling of joy seeing those newly diagnosed find
camaraderie and empowerment; seeing the familiar faces that I don’t often see;
in hearing stories of those who ‘get it’ after attending, knowing that we’ve
raised money to help others and still have a blast while doing it!
Q: What does Team Towanda mean to you?
A: “Team Towanda means that when I answer the phone and hear the voice of an
uninsured woman asking for a mammogram, I can schedule her for an appointment
and know that it’s ‘taken care of’."
Q: What are some of the images that stayed with you after the FUNdraiser?
A: “I am just always amazed that each year I bring a few Party Virgins and
within a half hour each one turns to me and say, ‘I am so in again next
A: “There was a lady (not on the younger end of the age spectrum) who was so
excited to be there and a part of it that she literally was skipping at full
speed through the lobby!”
A: “One of my favorite things was seeing so many women who have become friends
only from the FUNdraiser. We only see each other that one time of year and we
all were saying see you next year! Very cool!”
As always, breast wishes from all your girlfriends at Team Towanda!
